Alex Bregman, the 31-year-old All-Star third baseman for the Boston Red sox, has been scratched from the lineup for today’s game against the Minnesota Twins due to a minor injury. The team has not yet disclosed the specific nature of the ailment.
Bregman had been a consistent presence for the Red Sox following the all-Star break, participating in all 11 games within the first 12 days. He made two appearances as a pinch hitter, notably hitting a home run against the Chicago Cubs on July 20.
This recent absence follows a meaningful layoff for Bregman, who previously missed seven weeks due to a quad strain. He was activated from the injured list the weekend before the All-Star break.
In 64 games played this season, Bregman has posted a .298 batting average, with 14 home runs and 20 doubles. He has driven in 44 runs and scored 39. His overall performance includes a .922 OPS,four defensive runs saved, and a Wins Above Replacement (WAR) of 3.2. Bregman also holds the contractual right to opt out of his current deal at the end of the season, potentially entering free agency.
Bregman’s contributions have been instrumental in the Red Sox’s emergence as a contender in the current season. The team currently occupies the second American League Wild Card position and trails the Toronto Blue Jays by 5.0 games in the AL East standings. his availability is considered crucial for Boston’s playoff aspirations, especially following the departure of Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, which creates an opportunity for Bregman to solidify his role as a franchise cornerstone.
The scheduled first pitch for the Red Sox and Twins game is set for 1:10 p.m. ET.
