Saint Paul National Guard activated Following Cyberattack

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has activated the state’s National Guard to assist Saint Paul in recovering from a notable cyberattack that has disrupted city operations and some public services. The breach, which occurred on July 25, has overwhelmed the city’s capacity to respond, prompting the governor’s intervention.
The National Guard’s cyber forces will work to ensure the continuity of vital services and the safety and security of Saint Paul residents. Mayor Melvin carter stated that the city took its government systems offline to contain the intruders,which resulted in a citywide Wi-Fi outage. While the city does not store extensive resident data, Carter acknowledged a risk that data pertaining to city employees may have been compromised.
Saint Paul, a major U.S. city with over 300,000 residents, is the latest municipality to fall victim to cyberattacks and ransomware gangs in recent years. Similar incidents have affected other large cities, leading to disruptions in critical services.
