Two-Time Olympic champion Laura Dalmeier dies in Pakistan Mountain Incident

Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dalmeier has died following a serious mountain incident in Pakistan on July 28.

Dalmeier,31,was mountaineering in the Karakoram Mountain range when a rockfall occurred.According to a statement cited by ZDF, it is believed that Dalmeier died instantly based on helicopter flight findings and the weight of her climbing partner.

The German athlete achieved meaningful success in her career, including two Olympic titles and seven gold medals at World Championships. She also won the Biathlon World Cup overall title in the 2016-17 season. Throughout her career, Dalmeier secured 35 wins and 71 podium finishes in 153 competitions.

dalmeier retired from professional biathlon in May 2019, stating she had lost her passion for the sport. She was a state-certified mountain and ski guide and a member of the German mountain rescue organization, known for being an experienced and risk-aware climber, according to DPA.
