Real Madrid’s Rodri Pursuit Ends – City Firmly Remain United

manchester City has received a critically importent boost as reports confirm Real Madrid is not actively pursuing superstar midfielder Rodri.

While the Spanish giants have previously been linked with interest in the influential player, with suggestions of long-term midfield succession planning, these ambitions appear to be on hold.

Rodri’s commanding presence at the heart of Manchester City’s midfield has made him arguably Pep Guardiola‘s most vital player in recent seasons. His remarkable performances, leadership, and crucial contributions, notably in the 2023 UEFA Champions league final, have rendered him irreplaceable in Guardiola’s eyes and virtually untouchable in the transfer market.

Earlier this month, Spanish media hinted at Real Madrid internally discussing a potential blockbuster proposal, with some reports suggesting an offer involving two players plus a transfer fee. However, Manchester City has consistently shown no inclination to entertain a sale, and this firm stance has seemingly cooled Madrid’s initial intrigue.

According to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid is not considering a move for Rodri this summer. Factors contributing to this decision include the player’s recent recovery from a knee injury, his age of 29, and his contract with Manchester City extending until 2027.

From Manchester City’s viewpoint, Rodri is considered one of the few truly non-transferable players in the squad, despite growing interest from elite European clubs. He is central not only to Guardiola’s tactical plans but also to the team’s leadership structure.

With Rodri contracted until 2027, Manchester City faces no immediate pressure to negotiate a contract renewal. However, an extension may be explored at a later date, reflecting his rising profile and Ballon d’Or success with an improved contract.

While speculation surrounding Rodri’s future is unlikely to disappear entirely, particularly as Real Madrid plans for the post-Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos era, any move in 2025 or beyond would likely require a significant shift in circumstances.
