airbaltic Flight Returns to Riga Due to Cabin Air System Malfunction

An airBaltic flight bound for Reykjavik on Sunday, July 27, was forced to return to Riga Airport shortly after takeoff due to a detected malfunction in the cabin air supply and temperature control system. The airline stated the issue limited the aircraft’s ability to continue on a longer journey.

The incident involved an airBaltic aircraft operating the Riga-Reykjavik route. According to Flightradar24 data, the flight departed Riga at 11:01 p.m. on Sunday and returned to Riga Airport at 11:40 p.m. AirBaltic representatives confirmed that pilots identified an indication of a problem with the cabin air supply and temperature regulation shortly after departure.

As a precautionary measure, the decision was made to return to Riga to address the issue, as the necessary technical support and spare parts are available at the home airport. Before landing, the aircraft circled near Riga Airport to reduce it’s weight by burning fuel, a standard procedure in aviation safety when a return to the departure point is necessary.

Following its return, the aircraft underwent inspection. AirBaltic confirmed that the flight to Reykjavik was rescheduled after the aircraft was deemed technically ready. The airline did not classify the event as an emergency, and the aircraft is scheduled for further flights on Monday.
