Virginia Tech Coach Accused of Recruiting Tampering

BLACKSBURG, Va. – A Virginia Tech assistant football coach is reportedly facing accusations of recruitment tampering, stemming from comments made by North Carolina Central Head Coach Trei Oliver.

Coach Oliver shared his allegations on Friday during the Bill Dooley Pigskin Preview media event. He stated that he observed a Virginia Tech assistant coach on the sideline during a game in 2024. oliver claims this coach was attempting to persuade his running back,J’Mari Taylor,to enter the transfer portal.Taylor subsequently transferred to the University of Virginia.

The identity of the Virginia Tech assistant coach involved has not yet been disclosed.

Coach Oliver elaborated on the situation, saying, “Virginia Tech was actually on my sideline recruiting my running back. So,thank god they didn’t get him. He went to UVA. He got $400,000 though. $400,000. So he is starting at UVA now and I hope he kicks Virginia Tech’s butt.”

Virginia Tech issued a statement in response to the allegations: “We were made aware Friday afternoon of a public comment suggesting a potential NCAA rules concern involving a member of our coaching staff. This is the first time the issue has been brought to our attention, and no concern has previously been shared with us through any formal channel.”
