Melissa Barrera Gaza Protest: Scream 7 Boycott Sparks Outrage

Melissa Barrera Fired from ‘Scream 7‘ Over Gaza comments, Sparking Boycott Calls

San Diego, CA – July 25, 2024 – the upcoming installment of the iconic Scream horror franchise, Scream 7, is facing calls for a boycott following the dismissal of actress Melissa Barrera. demonstrators at San Diego Comic-Con have voiced their opposition to Barrera’s firing, which they attribute to her public statements condemning the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Barrera, who portrayed Sam Carpenter in the 2022 Scream adn its 2023 sequel Scream VI, had previously described Israel’s actions in Gaza as “ethnic genocide and cleansing” in November. Her stance aligns with a growing number of public figures in American entertainment who have spoken out on the issue.

following her termination from the film,Barrera reflected on the experience, stating,”For a long time,I attributed value as a person based on my work. So when I saw the possibility that I ended up, I wondered: ‘But than who are they really?’ And I understood that they are much more than a simple actress.” She added, “I am a fantastic sister, a fantastic daughter, a fantastic friend. And they are perfectly able to be accomplished in something else, if I wanted it.”

Production for Scream 7 is reportedly continuing, with a planned release date of February 27, 2026. The film is expected to feature the return of franchise veterans Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette.
