Mateusz Gamrot, a prominent contender in the UFC’s highly competitive lightweight division, has expressed his desire for a high-profile matchup, stating he is targeting fighters ranked above him. Gamrot, who holds an impressive 8-3 record in the UFC’s lightweight division, recently secured a dominant unanimous decision victory over Ľudovít Klein in May. This win followed a closely contested split decision loss to Dan Hooker at UFC 305.
Gamrot, formerly ranked in the top 5, showcased his grappling prowess against Klein, controlling the striking-focused opponent for the entirety of their three-round bout. At 34 years old, Gamrot believes a significant win could position him for a potential title shot against current featherweight champion Ilia Topuria.
When asked about his next opponent, Gamrot stated, “I’m looking for guys above me in the rankings.” He also mentioned potential opponents by name, including Paddy Pimblett and justin Gaethje, acknowledging them as “great names to fight.” Gamrot emphasized his commitment to being a sportsman and confirmed he is currently healthy.
