Christian Wilkins, a prominent defensive tackle, has been released by the Las Vegas raiders, as reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. This development follows a significant contract agreement between Wilkins and the Raiders on March 11, 2024, for $110 million, averaging $27.5 million annually.

The 29-year-old player spent only a brief period with the Raiders. His tenure was cut short due to a foot fracture sustained in the 2024-2025 season, which led to his placement on the injured list on July 18. Wilkins is currently recovering from a Jones fracture.

sources indicate that the Raiders rescinded $35.2 million in guaranteed money from Wilkins’ contract on June 4, citing his inability to maintain his physical condition for play.This decision stemmed from Wilkins’ approach to his rehabilitation, as he reportedly opted against surgery, a move that contrasted with the team’s assessment that a new operation was necessary.

Wilkins had a 50-day window, ending Thursday, to have the NFLPA file a grievance on his behalf. The union did indeed file the grievance on the final day it was permissible, according to sources. The NFLPA has not yet commented on the matter.The next procedural step following the grievance filing would be a hearing.

In a statement released on social media,the Raiders explained their decision: “We have steadfast that it was in the interest of the organization to depart from Christian Wilkins and we informed it. This franchise seeks excellence in the field and outside it. Without any clarity in relation to Christian’s medical situation, this transaction was necessary for the whole organization to move forward and prepare for the next season.”

Prior to joining the Raiders, Wilkins played five seasons with the Miami Dolphins. Throughout his career, he has recorded 372 tackles, 22.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one interception.
