Houston Methodist Seeks Expert Coder to Ensure Accurate Billing and Compliance

Houston Methodist, a leading health system renowned for its academic medical center and extensive network of hospitals, is actively recruiting for a skilled coder. This critical role will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of patient billing and ensuring adherence to complex coding regulations, directly impacting both patient and employee safety and security thru accurate financial record-keeping.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of various coding classification systems, including ICD-9-CM, CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS. Proficiency in MS-DRG,APR DRG,and APC assignment systems is also essential for inpatient and outpatient coding. Moreover,a strong grasp of official coding guidelines,coding compliance,medical terminology,anatomy,physiology,disease processes,pharmacology,and all components of the medical record is required. The position also demands expertise in electronic encoder applications and Microsoft Office Suite.

Exceptional interaction skills are paramount, enabling effective interaction with patients, physicians, family members, and colleagues in a customer-service-oriented manner, utilizing positive language principles.While not mandatory, an AHIMA-designated ICD-10 Approved Trainer or an AAPC CPC-I or CPMA certification for CBO coders is highly preferred.

Successful candidates will be expected to adhere to a business professional dress code. While on-call duties are not standard, employees may be required to respond during emergencies such as natural disasters or severe weather events. Travel within the Houston Metropolitan area may be necessary,and in some cases,travel outside the metropolitan area could be required,depending on departmental needs.
