Argentina has updated its power market regulations, introducing new rules for transmission priority dispatch capacity, particularly for projects connected to teh Mater term market. These changes aim to clarify the allocation and transfer of this crucial capacity, which is essential for renewable energy projects seeking to participate in corporate power purchase agreements under the Mater framework.
Under the revised rules, priority dispatch capacity for planned grid expansion work linked to a Mater term market generation project will be reserved for a decade. Furthermore, generators or groups of generators that have undertaken such expansion work now have the ability to transfer their awarded transmission priority dispatch capacity to other market agents or participants. This versatility is expected to streamline the integration of new renewable capacity into the national grid.
The Mater market has been a notable driver of growth for Argentina’s renewable energy sector, facilitating power procurement through corporate power purchase agreements. The demand for transmission priority dispatch capacity is particularly strong among renewables projects aiming to secure their participation in this market.
This update follows two main batches of power market rule changes introduced earlier this year. For a detailed look at the regulations, Resolution No. 311/2025 can be accessed via the official bulletin.
