Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the conservative Party, is reportedly set to announce a important reshuffling of her shadow cabinet today. Sources indicate that former Foreign Secretary Sir James Cleverly is expected to return to the Conservative frontbench in a prominent role.
badenoch’s move marks her first major reorganization of the frontbench since assuming leadership of the conservative Party and the opposition in November 2024. Sir James, who has previously held positions as both Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary, is understood to be returning to a key frontbench position, though he is not expected to be appointed Shadow Chancellor, a role currently held by Mel Stride.
Cleverly was a contender in the previous leadership race, with many anticipating his potential to succeed in the bid.Though, he did not advance to the final two candidates. When questioned about his leadership aspirations last week,Sir James stated he had imposed a personal discipline of not “jumping at something.”
