Egypt Halts Ragheb Alama Performance Over ‘Disgraceful’ Conduct
Music Syndicate Cites Violation of National Values
The Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions has suspended acclaimed artist Ragheb Alama from performing in Egypt. The decision follows recent alleged behavior during a concert that officials deemed a “disgraceful” contradiction of Egyptian customs and values.
Syndicate Issues Stern Warning
Mustafa Kamel, captain of the music professions, issued a strong statement condemning the artist’s actions. He emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable on Egyptian soil, a nation with a rich artistic heritage.
“For two days, I followed a disgraceful behavior that contradicts all Egyptian customs, traditions and societal values and we are not used to it within our homeland, and we will not allow it to be repeated on the land of Umm Kulthum, Abdel -Wahab, Halim and the great Arab art, as well as that Egypt’s theaters have been entrusted by the great artists of Egypt and the great Arab world, art and value Check.”

The syndicate has formally summoned Ragheb Alama to appear for an investigation at its headquarters. This action is intended to address what the syndicate describes as a deliberate transgression of Egyptian societal norms.
Venue Under Scrutiny
In addition to summoning the artist, the syndicate is also addressing the Chamber of Tourist Establishments. Their aim is to collaborate on a decision regarding the owner of the venue where the concert took place, citing it as an intentional disregard for Egyptian traditions.
The move comes at a time when cultural sensitivities are keenly felt. For instance, a 2023 report by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture highlighted the importance of preserving national heritage in public performances, noting a growing public appreciation for artists who respect local traditions (Ahram Online, 2023).
