Sakarya Forest Fire Forces Evacuation of Two Neighborhoods

Geyve district in Sakarya has seen two neighborhoods evacuated due to a rapidly spreading forest fire. The blaze, which ignited in the Hacılar neighborhood under currently unknown circumstances, has prompted an immediate response from the Forest Management Directorate and Fire Brigade teams.
As a precautionary measure, residents of the Tasoluk and Hacılar neighborhoods have been relocated. Citizens are actively assisting in extinguishing efforts, utilizing tankers to supply water to the ground intervention teams.

Governor Oversees Response Efforts
Sakarya Governor Rahmi Dogan visited the affected region, confirming that firefighting operations commenced swiftly after the fire broke out around 5:00 PM in Geyve’s hacılar village. He reported that aerial support, comprising five aircraft and eight helicopters, operated until dusk. Ground crews, including firefighters and personnel from various public institutions and organizations, are continuing the battle against the flames.
Governor Dogan stated that the fire is currently advancing towards Bayat village, where additional resources and equipment have been deployed. “we are trying to intervene in the forest fire in coordination with our teams,” he said, emphasizing the primary objective of protecting villages and residents from harm.
Examination Underway, Control Efforts Intensify
Investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by the relevant authorities. governor Dogan assured the public that information regarding the origin of the blaze will be shared once confirmed. He highlighted the coordinated efforts of all involved agencies, including AFAD, the Metropolitan Municipality, district municipalities, and reinforcements from surrounding provinces.
Addressing concerns about further evacuations, Governor Dogan confirmed that only the Hacılar and Tasoluk neighborhoods have been evacuated thus far.Measures have been taken in Bayat village as the fire progresses in that direction. “I hope that we will take control before reaching the village,” he expressed, underscoring the commitment to containing the fire and preventing further damage.
