Central Coast Program Marks 25 Years of Empowering Lives

Growing Grounds Celebrates Milestone Anniversary

The Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA) recently celebrated a significant achievement: the 25th anniversary of its impactful Growing Grounds Program on the Central Coast.

Nursery Cultivates Recovery and Employment

This unique non-profit wholesale nursery has provided invaluable employment and training opportunities to over 1,000 adults navigating mental illness. The program’s success was honored with a celebratory gathering at the Growing Grounds farm in Santa Maria.

Community Gathers to Honor Program’s Impact

Attendees enjoyed live music, engaging activities, and food, marking a joyful occasion. The event saw the attendance of both current and past program participants, highlighting the enduring legacy of Growing Grounds.

“What’s been really nice is to see a lot of people who know about the place or who even worked here and are coming back to kind of pay tribute. Some of them are coming back to say thank you. They’ve gone on and they’re having, you know, wonderful success in their lives.”

Michael Kaplan, Community Engagement Director at TMHA

The Growing Grounds Program is more than just a nursery; it’s a launchpad for personal and professional growth. According to a 2023 report by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), employment support programs can significantly improve outcomes for individuals with serious mental illness, with many reporting increased self-esteem and community integration.

Support and Volunteer Opportunities
