Shannon Sharpe Settles Lawsuit Alleging Rape
Former NFL star and current media personality Shannon Sharpe has reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed against him earlier this year, which included allegations of rape. The terms of the settlement have not been publicly disclosed.Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the accuser, confirmed the resolution in a statement shared on social media. “Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship,” Buzbee stated. “After protracted and respectful negotiations, I’m pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution. All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed.” Buzbee did not provide further comment when contacted by The Root.
Sharpe had previously denied any wrongdoing in the case, asserting that the relationship with the accuser was consensual and presenting explicit text messages as evidence.A representative for Sharpe also declined to comment.
The lawsuit had a notable impact on Sharpe’s professional career.He postponed his eight-city “Nightcap NSFW” Tour with chad “Ochocinco” Johnson to 2026. Additionally, Sharpe temporarily stepped away from his role as an analyst at ESPN in April, stating his intention to return at the start of the NFL preseason. ESPN has not yet confirmed his return. Sharpe has continued to host his YouTube show, “Club Shay Shay,” and his “Nightcap” podcast.
