Tierra del Fuego Goods: Import Rules Clarified
Government Details Eligible Products for Simplified Purchase Regime
Two months after implementing a streamlined process for acquiring goods from Tierra del Fuego, the government has now specified which products are eligible for purchase. This move aims to facilitate access for final consumers under new import regulations.
Specific Merchandise Now Defined
Resolution 286/2025, published in the Official Gazette and signed by Esteban Marzorati, Secretary of Industry and Commerce, formally outlines the merchandise that can be imported through this simplified regime. Products are identified by their tariff classification codes within the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM).
Over 40 distinct product categories are now permitted. These include a range of electronics and household appliances such as televisions, radios, cameras, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, and computers (notebooks). Other items like coffee makers and food processors are also on the list.
Consumer Purchase Limits Established
The regulations stipulate that individuals can purchase up to three units of the same product type per calendar year. Furthermore, each shipment is capped at a Free on Board (FOB) value of US$3,000. Importantly, these purchases are strictly for personal use, with commercial resale prohibited.
All goods must carry the appropriate origin accreditation as per the Special Fiscal and Customs Regime of Tierra del Fuego province. This ensures compliance with the region’s unique economic framework.
In Argentina, the consumer electronics market saw a significant increase in online sales during 2023, with analysts projecting a continued upward trend into 2025, partly driven by such governmental initiatives (Statista 2025).
Simplified Import Framework Details
The initiative, first announced in May, enables companies in Tierra del Fuego to sell directly to private buyers via online platforms. This system is designed to boost local manufacturing and provide consumers with greater access to domestically produced goods.
