Dayro Moreno Scores as Substitute in Bolivia, Nearing South American Cup Milestone
Dayro Moreno, the veteran striker, proved his scoring prowess once again, netting a goal for Once Caldas despite starting the match against San Antonio bulo Bulo in Bolivia as a substitute. The decision by coach Hernán Darío Herrera to bench Moreno initially saw Jefry Zapata take his place, with Zapata opening the scoring in Once Caldas’ dominant 0-3 victory in Cochabamba.
Moreno entered the fray in the 70th minute, replacing Zapata.Just fifteen minutes later, he found the back of the net. The goal came from a cross delivered by Felipe Gómez from the left flank, which Moreno expertly headed into the center of the goal.
This latest strike marks Moreno’s fifth goal in the current edition of the Copa Sudamericana, placing him among the competition’s leading scorers. He trails only Ismael Díaz of Universidad Católica and Junior Paredes of Puerto Cabello, who have each scored six goals.
With this goal, the 39-year-old further extends his lead as Colombia’s all-time leading scorer. He now boasts 364 career goals, widening the gap to eight goals over Radamel Falcao García, who has been actively closing the distance with his recent performances for Millonarios.
