Fire destroys main stage at Belgium’s Tomorrowland festival on eve of opening | Belgium

Tomorrowland Main Stage Ravaged by Fire Ahead of Festival

Thousands expected as organizers vow event will proceed despite catastrophic blaze.

A devastating fire has completely destroyed the iconic main stage at the Tomorrowland music festival near Antwerp, Belgium. The incident occurred just one day before an anticipated crowd of electronic dance music enthusiasts were set to descend upon the renowned event.

Blaze Engulfs Iconic Stage

Images circulating on social media and local news outlets vividly depicted intense flames and thick plumes of black smoke consuming the main stage structure, with the fire reportedly spreading to adjacent woodland. Firefighters battled the blaze for an extended period to contain it.

Organizers confirmed the severe damage to the beloved main stage, stating, “Due to a serious incident and fire on the Tomorrowland Mainstage, our beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged.” They also emphatically assured the public that “no one was injured during the incident.”

Festival Set to Continue

Despite the substantial damage to a central performance area, Tomorrowland organizers are committed to pushing forward with the festival over the upcoming two weekends. Their immediate priority is focused on “finding solutions” to ensure the event can still deliver an unforgettable experience for attendees.

Approximately 100,000 festival-goers are anticipated in the town of Boom, with many planning to utilize the on-site DreamVille campsite, which is slated to open as scheduled. A lineup featuring prominent DJs such as David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Armin Van Buuren, and Charlotte de Witte is still expected to perform.

Investigation Underway

Antwerp prosecutors have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. Preliminary indications suggest the blaze may have been accidental. The Tomorrowland festival, established two decades ago by two Belgian brothers, has grown into a globally recognized cultural phenomenon.

The destruction of the main stage presents a significant challenge, especially as a substantial portion of the scheduled performances, roughly two-thirds, were allocated between the now-destroyed main stage and the freedom stage.
