Israel builds new military corridor in Gaza’s Khan Younis-Xinhua

Israel Carves Gaza Corridor, Dividing Khan Younis

New ‘Magen Oz’ Route Aims to Pressure Hamas Brigade

Israel’s military has constructed a new road bisecting the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, a move intended to intensify operations against Hamas in the area. The corridor, dubbed “Magen Oz,” is the latest of several such routes established by Israel within the densely populated territory.

Strategic Corridor Established

The newly formed “Magen Oz Corridor” spans approximately 15 kilometers and divides Khan Younis into eastern and western sectors. The military stated that this route is crucial for exerting pressure on Hamas and achieving the defeat of its local brigade.

Dividing the Enclave

This development marks the fourth time Israel has created a dividing strip within Gaza by clearing buildings and infrastructure. Such routes have previously presented significant challenges during ceasefire negotiations, with Prime Minister **Benjamin Netanyahu** vowing to maintain Israeli forces’ presence on some of them.

Humanitarian Impact Continues

The ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza have exacerbated a severe humanitarian crisis. According to Gaza-based health authorities, the conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in at least 58,479 fatalities and 139,355 injuries.

As of early July 2024, over 1.7 million Palestinians remain displaced within Gaza due to the conflict, highlighting the immense humanitarian cost of the ongoing hostilities. (UN OCHA, July 2024)
