Sam Lange: Michigan Tech Cross Country Star Named CSC Academic All-American

Michigan Tech’s Sam Lange has once again achieved national recognition, earning a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American Second Team for the second consecutive year. The announcement was made Wednesday.

Lange’s repeat performance follows his Second Team selection last year. During that season, he secured First Team all-GLIAC and Midwest All-Region honors in cross country. He also finished as the GLIAC runner-up in the 1,500 meters, earning All-Region accolades and qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where he placed 17th.

The Washington, Illinois, native is the only Michigan Tech athlete to be a repeat CSC Second Team All-american. Previous Huskies to receive CSC Academic All-America status include Jani Lane (Second Team, 2015), Jason Saliga (Third Team, 2017), and Clayton Sayen (Third Team, 2023).

In the 2024 cross country season, Lange led the Huskies in five of six races. He earned All-Region honors with a 12th-place finish and First Team All-GLIAC recognition for his 6th-place finish. He concluded his collegiate career as Michigan Tech’s top finisher at the NCAA Division II cross Country championships in Sacramento, California, placing 83rd overall. academically, Lange maintained a 3.98 cumulative GPA while completing his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also received USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors four times and was a GLIAC Commissioner’s award recipient in the fall.

The NCAA Division II national governance structure financially supports the Division II Academic all-America® programme,assisting the College Sports Communicators with award fulfillment for the 2024-25 academic year.
