“Severance” Poised for Major Emmy Haul, With 22 Nominations Predicted
Apple TV+’s acclaimed series “Severance” is on track to be a dominant force at the upcoming Emmy Awards, with predictions suggesting a robust haul of 22 nominations. The show’s critical success and widespread appeal have positioned it as a frontrunner in several key categories, though some challenges remain.
The series itself is a near certainty for a nomination, alongside lead actor Adam Scott and the show’s writing. These nine “locks” form the foundation of the optimistic outlook. Beyond these, “Severance” is expected to convert on 10 out of 13 “likely” nominations, bringing the projected total to 19. The remaining eight “bubble” nominees could push this number even higher, with at least three of those expected to secure a nod.
A “best-case scenario” could see “Severance” achieve as many as 25 nominations, including guest acting nods for John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and potentially one of the actors playing the Lumon executives. While a record-breaking performance akin to “Game of Thrones” seems unlikely, “Severance” is firmly established as one of the year’s most recognized television programs.
Though, the path to nominations isn’t without its hurdles. The series faces stiff competition in categories like Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup. While “Severance” features extraordinary effects in its “Attila” episode, the category often favors extensive fantasy and sci-fi transformations. To secure a nomination here, “severance” must contend with strong contenders such as “The Penguin,” “the Pitt,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “House of the Dragon,” and “The Last of Us.”
