Historical day all’Umberto I Hospital of Enna where yesterday, for the first time, two gynecological interventions were performed for removal of the’uterus using one of the latest technological innovations in the surgical field. Thanks to‘University of Enna Kore’s studies, in fact, l’Hospital has been equipped with one of the most advanced robotic systems in the world.
«Thanks to robotic surgery – commented the manager of‘Unit Complex clinicized operation of gynecology and obstetrics, Basilio Pecorino – we will be able to improve the safety of interventions through the’extreme precision of the surgical gesture, guaranteeing less and less invasive procedures. “
The interventions were carried out by Prof. Pecorino, assisted by the medical managers Francesco Colaleo and Paolo Manna and the instrumentalist Martina Pavone. THE’Full team carried out a training period at a prestigious international academy in Belgium under the supervision of Dr. Giovanni Panico, expert in robotic surgery, of the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome.
Robotic surgery allowhas to treat more and more complex cases thanks to particular technology, allowing to perform movements of the tools at 360 degrees thanks to’assistance of the robotic platform.
«The robot does not replacehas To the surgeon because it is always the specialist who performs the procedure – concludes the professor – but it allows us to be even more accurate by decreasing pain, blood loss and favoring a reduced period of hospitalization “.
