Donald Trump reacts to Elon Musk’s announcement that he will create a new political party in the United States: ‘ridiculous’

Trump Dismisses Musk’s “America Party” as “Ridiculous”

Former President Donald Trump derided Elon Musk‘s newly announced “America Party,” dismissing the idea of a third political party as unnecessary and confusing.

Trump Scorns Musk’s Political Venture

Trump told reporters on Sunday before boarding his plane to Washington that “I think it’s ridiculous to create a third game.” He argued that the U.S. has always had a bipartisan system, and a third party would only create further confusion.

He further stated that “Third parties have never worked. So we can have fun with that, but I think it’s ridiculous,” underscoring his lack of faith in the viability of Musk‘s project.

Once allies, Musk, the head of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, had been a significant donor to Trump‘s 2024 Republican campaign.

From Allies to Adversaries

A schism developed over the president’s fiscal legislation, which Musk criticized as potentially “explosive” for the national debt. In fact, the national debt has surpassed $34.6 trillion as of March 2024 (U.S. Treasury).

Musk, a U.S. citizen since 2002, pledged to actively campaign against legislators who supported the bill.

On Truth Social, Trump claimed his former ally had “left his right minds” and become “A disaster in the last five weeks.”

Concerns About Disruption

Trump also predicted that the establishment of a third party would result in “complete and total disruption and chaos.”

Treasury Secretary Weighs In

Echoing similar sentiments, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent suggested Musk should refocus on his business ventures instead of politics.

“I think the advice of their companies would want them to direct them again, since it is better than anyone in that,” Besent stated, implying that Musk‘s companies might prefer he concentrate on his core business activities.

Besent also commented on Musk‘s brief tenure directing the government efficiency department (Doge) as part of Trump’s initiatives to reduce public spending, noting that while the principles were popular, Musk himself was not.

Musk resigned from Doge in May to dedicate himself to his companies, particularly after Tesla’s sales and reputation suffered due to his involvement in Trump‘s inner circle.
