“I listened to reports on the implementation of the protection measures from air (missile) blows of the enemy. My unconditional requirement is to ensure and increase the security of military personnel in training centers and at the rear training grounds.
—Alexander Syrsky, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
This focus on safety comes as military infrastructure faces increasing threats. According to a 2024 report, nearly 60% of military facilities worldwide lack adequate protection against modern aerial attacks (Defense Analysis 2024).
Training Enhancements
Additional protective structures like new shelters and dugouts are being constructed at training locations. Furthermore, improvements are planned to the existing infrastructure for improved air raid alerts. The goal is to better safeguard those who are preparing for and undergoing training.
Igor Skibyuk, recently appointed as the deputy chief of the General Staff, will be responsible for directing preparations. The basic general training duration is also being extended to 51 days. Two days will be added to train soldiers how to counter enemy drone strikes.
