Music Industry Secrets Revealed: Ghost Producers and Uncredited Hits
Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Artists Shaping Popular Music
The veil is lifted, exposing the hidden hands crafting the hits we all know and love. Ghost producers, often working in the shadows, create tracks for well-known artists, collecting royalties but rarely receiving public recognition. This practice is now shedding light on the intricate dynamics of the music world.
Unmasking the Creators
Two prominent ghost producers, Nicolas Geniets (45) and Thibault Hendrix (30), have surprisingly opened up, sharing their experiences with the public. They admit to contributing to the music of artists like Viktor Verhulst, acknowledging the artist’s reliance on collaborative efforts. Also, they work with Pat Krimson, turning ideas into reality. Amber Broos employed a similar working arrangement, they said.
“We regularly make songs for Tiësto and Armin van Buuren. Those men constantly fly the world. They don’t have time to be in the studio.”

The ghost production phenomenon isn’t new. In 2023, it’s estimated that ghost producers generate over $1 billion annually within the electronic music industry (Statista). This highlights the massive financial impact of the often-unseen creatives.
Hidden Talents and Uncredited Work
The duo mentioned that David Guetta spends considerable time in the studio, a stark contrast to others who rely heavily on external help. However, they criticised producer Yves Deruyter, who doesn’t credit his collaborators despite not producing the music himself. This highlights the frustration felt by those working behind the scenes.
Beyond Music: A New Venture
Actor and television producer Dominique van Malder (49) is expanding his horizons. He is taking over Cultuurcafé Bar Belgica in his hometown of Dendermonde, renaming it ‘Den Belgika’ with a focus on creating an inclusive community hub. “We want to make it a meeting place,” he said.
The complex web of musical creation and the expansion into new ventures reveals the multifaceted nature of the creative industry. The ghost producers’ stories and the cafe opening illuminate the ever-changing dynamics within the entertainment world.
