Proximus CEO Steps Down, New Leader Appointed
Leadership Transition at Proximus
In a significant shift, Proximus is set to have a new leader. The current CEO, Guillaume Boutin, who has been with the telecommunications group for seven years and CEO since 2019, will be leaving the company in May 2025 to join Vodafone.
The board of directors, acting on the recommendation of the appointment committee, has named Stijn Bijnens as his successor. Bijnens, aged 56, is poised to take the helm of the Belgian telecommunications giant.
“The mission of the new boss of Proximus will be to bring the company “to a new strategic cycle, to continue […] The construction of the best Belgian Gigabit network to consolidate the strong position of Proximus as a leader on the national market,”

Stijn Bijnens launched his career in 1995. He established the network security firm Netvision, which later became Ubizen. He also served as CEO of the Belgian company Cegeka, which he helped establish as a key player in the IT sector across Belgium and France.
According to recent data, the demand for high-speed internet and robust network infrastructure continues to grow. The rise in remote work has increased the reliance on dependable internet access (Statista 2024).
What’s Next
Bijnens will begin his new role on September 1. He will be tasked with steering Proximus “to a new strategic cycle” to maintain its leading position in the national market, according to a statement from the Proximus Group.
