Shakira, originally slated to headline the WorldPride Welcome Concert at Nationals Park, canceled her performance late Friday, May 30, just a day before the scheduled event.
The Reason Behind the Cancellation
Nationals Park announced via X that the cancellation stemmed from complications arising from the cancellation of Shakira’s Boston show at Fenway Park,which was called off due to structural concerns at the venue.
The post elaborated that due to the Boston issues, Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time for her scheduled performance at Nationals Park on Saturday, May 31.

A message from Shakira was posted on the nationals’ website, expressing her disappointment:
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and hearbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able. Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for your unconditional support.

WorldPride Continues as Planned
Despite the cancellation, the Capital Pride Alliance affirmed that WorldPride would proceed as planned. They stated that while they where deeply disappointed that unforeseen circumstances have forced the cancellation,
the weekend remains packed with programming.
Background and Previous Cancellations
Shakira’s participation in the WorldPride celebration was initially announced in October 2024. This announcement followed the cancellation of two of her concert dates at capital One Arena in November 2024. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had expressed enthusiasm about Shakira’s involvement, stating:
We can’t wait to welcome the world to Washington, DC for WorldPride 2025. there’s a lot to look forward to and lot to be excited about – and a kickoff concert with Shakira is one more fantastic reason to plan your trip to DC for World Pride.

Ticket refunds
Nationals Park confirmed that refunds would be automatically issued for tickets purchased through Ticketmaster and Nationals.com. Those who bought tickets through third-party resellers were advised to contact those vendors directly.
