Okanagan Trestles Tour Celebrates Myra Canyon Anniversary with Special Cycling Event
Cyclists, mark your calendars.The Okanagan Trestles Tour is gearing up for a special event on July 6, 2025, to commemorate the 111th anniversary of the iconic Myra Canyon Trestles. This event promises a scenic journey through history and nature along the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) Trail.
Choose Your Adventure: 80km or 40km Routes
The tour offers two distinct routes, catering to varying levels of cycling experience and endurance.
- The Full Monty (80km): Starting at the famed Myra Canyon in Kelowna, this route takes cyclists on an 80-kilometer trek towards Penticton.Expect an average completion time of approximately 5.5 hours.The route begins with 18 trestles and two tunnels, offering stunning views and a relatively flat profile for the frist 36 kilometers, followed by a gentle 2.2 percent decline into Penticton.
- The Halfway Hero (40km): For those seeking a shorter adventure, the 40-kilometer route begins at Chute Lake, the halfway point of the longer route. From there, cyclists will traverse through rock Oven Regional Park and the picturesque Naramata Wine Country. This route typically takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours to complete.
Did you know? The Kettle Valley Railway was originally constructed between 1912 and 1915 to transport ore and connect communities in southern British Columbia. The Myra Canyon section is renowned for its notable wooden trestle bridges.
More than Just a Ride: Support and Amenities
Participants can expect a fully supported ride experience. The event includes:
- Rest Stops: Four strategically placed rest stops will provide cyclists with food and drinks to keep them energized throughout the journey.

- First Aid: First aid personnel will be present to provide assistance in case of any medical needs.
- Post-Ride BBQ: Upon reaching the finish line at Penticton Lakeside Resort, cyclists can celebrate their accomplishment with a well-deserved BBQ, complete with beverage options and live music.

To further enhance the participant experience,a bike shuttle service is available. Cyclists can have their bikes transported from the Penticton Trade and Convention Center to either Myra canyon or Chute lake on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rest assured, bikes will be stored in a secure area.
