Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Minister Teten Masduki is working to find solutions to address the illegal import of used clothing that could impact businesses, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. The minister has coordinated with stakeholders to come up with a plan to help the affected sellers of illegally imported used clothing transition to a new business. He also clarified the difference in understanding between the government and the public regarding the ban on illegal used clothing imports. Traders who have already sold illegally imported used clothing products are still permitted to sell the rest of their inventory, but the ministry is working on a settlement solution scheme for these sellers. This includes opening a complaint hotline, preparing local substitute products, and access to financing. The ministry is prioritizing the destruction of illegally imported used clothing and is highlighting the importance of local brands to the ecosystem of young people in the country. Businesspeople and influencers have expressed agreement with the government’s policy regarding illegal imports of used goods.
Minister aims to resolve the issue of illegal importation of second-hand clothing.
