Tyrese Maxey scored 39 points and VJ Edgecombe added a career-high 24 as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 135-108 on Sunday night, ending a four-game losing streak.
Maxey shot 16-for-28 from the field, including four of Philadelphia’s 21 three-pointers. Edgecombe’s performance was highlighted by six successful three-point attempts. Quentin Grimes contributed 19 points with five three-pointers, and Kelly Oubre Jr. Added 18 points and four steals for the 76ers.
The 76ers, coming off a 126-111 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, played without center Joel Embiid, who missed his third consecutive game due to right shin soreness. Embiid had also been sidelined for three of the five games leading up to the All-Star break with right knee soreness.
Minnesota’s three-game winning streak was broken. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 28 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Jaden McDaniels scored 19 points, and Julius Randle added 18.
The Timberwolves were without Naz Reid due to shoulder soreness, and Rudy Gobert served a one-game suspension for accumulating too many flagrant fouls. Gobert faces further suspension; he will be suspended for two games for each additional flagrant foul this season. Joan Beringer, the 17th overall pick in the 2025 draft, made his first career start for Minnesota, recording two points and three fouls in five first-half minutes before being replaced by Ayo Dosunmu in the third quarter, who finished with 12 points.
Philadelphia led 31-26 after the first quarter and 63-55 at halftime. The 76ers extended their lead in the second half, ultimately securing the 135-108 victory.
