A six-year-old boy, the son of Czech actress Olga Menzelová and Egyptologist Miroslav Bárta, has reportedly discovered a rare artifact during archaeological work in Egypt, according to a report published Thursday by iDNES.cz.
Albert Bárta, son of Menzelová and Bárta, is described as having “enrolled in archaeology” with the discovery, though the nature of the artifact has not been detailed. The find occurred while Bárta was with his mother and sister in Egypt, according to images published by iDNES.cz.
Menzelová, the widow of Oscar-winning director Jiří Menzel, has been in a relationship with Bárta since 2019. The couple’s relationship was initially kept private, with the birth of their son, Albert, in 2023 not publicly announced until later. According to a 2022 interview with Blesk.cz, Menzelová frequently accompanies Bárta on archaeological expeditions to Egypt.
“Mirek wants us to be with him,” Menzelová told Super.cz in 2022, referring to Bárta. She also noted that through Bárta, she has learned a great deal about ancient Egypt, and that their children share his enthusiasm for the subject.
Bárta is an Egyptologist who has led excavations in Egypt for many years. Menzelová has described him as being well-prepared for potential global disruptions, stating in 2022 that they are prepared for events like blackouts.
As of Thursday afternoon, neither Menzelová nor Bárta have publicly commented further on the discovery of the artifact, and the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities has not released a statement regarding the find.
