49ers Suffer Lopsided Defeat to Rams, Falling to 6-4
INGLEWOOD, CA – November 9, 2025 – The San Francisco 49ers were thoroughly outplayed by the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, losing 42-26 and dropping to 6-4 on the season. The defeat highlights growing concerns for the Niners, who now trail the Seattle Seahawks and Rams in the NFC west standings. los Angeles dominated the game, racking up 401 yards of offense while committing zero penalties – a stark contrast to San Francisco’s seven. The Rams also won the turnover battle 2-0.
Despite the loss, several 49ers players delivered strong performances. Running back brian Robinson had a positive outing, scoring a touchdown and surpassing Christian McCaffrey in rushing yards. The offensive line also impressed against a formidable Rams defensive front, and tight end George Kittle was a consistent target, finishing with nine catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, alongside effective run blocking.
However, the defensive side of the ball proved problematic for San Francisco. Cornerback Renardo Green struggled against both Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, undoing recent progress. linebacker Luke Gifford was repeatedly targeted by the Rams’ offense, becoming a clear liability, prompting the team to utilize the big Nickel formation with Jason Pinnock at SAM linebacker. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh drew criticism for leaving Gifford on the field. Safeties Ji’Ayir Brown and Malik Mustapha also underperformed, with Brown exhibiting issues in both run and pass defense and Mustapha’s play being particularly poor. Defensive tackle Jordan Elliott was consistently exploited by the Rams’ “duo” run play and committed a costly fourth-and-1 encroachment penalty late in the game.
