The article in brief

• Caroline and Fredrik completely renovated their 1930s house during the toddler years.

• The house has preserved charm and modern comfort after gentle renovation.

• They have made major changes, including built bathrooms and changed floor plan.

• The family thrives and constantly finds new projects in the home.

• Many furniture are finds from second hand and flea ice cream.

The birds chirp and the sun warms well. It is May, but the high summer heat has come up with a visit. Everything is as idyllic as it can only be when the greenery finally returned after a long gray winter.

Carolines and Fredrik’s 1930s houses are surrounded by nature. It is easy to imagine how it looked when it was built because much from the past remains, such as the hen house and the walls. Thanks to the couple’s gentle renovation, pieces that have been missing have fallen back into place. The house today breathes the same charm as when it was built.

Location -built a bookshelf

The floor plan is traditional with the rooms built around the brick. Through the spacious hall you continue into a cozy country kitchen. Original details have been joined by a new country -style kitchen that harmonizes with the original parts but is adapted to today’s requirements for convenience.

In the dining room next to the kitchen, Fredrik and Caroline have created stylish and smart storage by carpentry a site -built bookshelf. The room is cozy decorated with old furniture which together with a leaf patterned wallpaper gives a nice and homely feel.

In the living room, the light flows in from windows in two weather bars and the sofa is beautiful in placed in the bay language – a room to thrive in. The plan is to eventually build mirror panels on the walls.

“There was only one shower cubicle”

Upstairs are beautiful board floors, just like downstairs, which the couple has renovated. Some floors are treated with linseed oil soap and others are white pigmented. The pearl point on the walls is new, it was put there when Fredrik and Caroline renovated, changed the floor plan and built the bathroom.

– When we moved in, there was only one shower cubicle in the basement. We were very keen to build a bathroom as soon as possible, but it took six months. We had to change the floor plan upstairs to be able to pull a new trunk and to accommodate the bathroom itself. It became a big project. When the bathroom was done, we realized how hard it had been with only a shower cubicle as a bathroom, especially because we had a little baby, says Caroline.

Upstairs you will also find the couple’s cozy bedroom and two beautifully decorated children’s rooms.

Very much needed to be done

The interior is consistently light and mild and created by a mix of old and new. Many of the furniture is purchased second hand because Caroline and Fredrik enjoy looking for “the perfect find”. Some favorites from the flea tours are the kitchen table and the dining room – two real chapters.

The couple previously lived in Stockholm but moved to BorĂĄs when his son Bill was in his stomach. Caroline and Fredrik were ready for a new chapter and wanted a life at a slightly calmer pace at the place where Caroline grew up.

– After six months of searching we saw this house and immediately felt that we just had to go on the show. The house was exactly what we had been looking for – an older wooden house with charm and the opportunity to make its own mark on. There was a lot that needed to be done. There were no bathrooms, the dining room was demolished and the whole house was extremely neglected. But we fell for space, floor plan, light and of course all the charming and well -preserved original details that remained. The large leafy garden and proximity to forest and nature, though the town is only ten minutes away, each other plus, says Caroline and continues:

– Even today, although it has been five years since we moved in, we feel a huge gratitude that the house became ours.

“Bill could come any day”

Caroline and Fredrik were given access on the same day that son Bill was calculated. Happy in the mound, and with the idea that you usually go over time as a firstborn, the couple had booked floor grinding and started directly with painting of several rooms and wardrobe construction – all to get in order before the baby would come.

– When we gained access to our home feeling with small means and in as short a time as possible. It was very stressful – Bill could come any day – but we wanted to get in order quickly because we knew we would disappear into the baby bubble once he was born. We got clear in time and were then able to enjoy both the baby time and our home, says Caroline and Fredrik.

The couple has renovated more or less the entire house.

– A lot has happened in the five years we have lived here. We have had two children and have been able to renovate large parts of the house. We will probably never feel that “now we are done”, as we are coming up with new projects all the time. Right now Fredrik is replacing the trolley on the terrace. I try to catch up in the garden which feels a bit like an eternity project. And so I’m looking to wallpaper in the dining room because I got tired of the wallpaper, but it must probably wait a while → says Caroline.
