A 30-foot-tall sculpture is advancing toward installation at a prominent Broad Ripple intersection, sparking debate among residents. the artwork, titled “Gavin-Divergence,” has progressed to the permitting stage with the city of Indianapolis after initial plans were revealed earlier this year.
The proposed location at the busy intersection of Broad Ripple Avenue and College Avenue has drawn mixed reactions. While supporters anticipate the sculpture will become a landmark and cultural asset, some community members express concern about potential distractions and its suitability for the high-traffic area. The installation hinges on securing the necessary city permits, a process the creators say is already in progress.
Local artist and Broad Ripple resident, sarah Ebbert, voiced reservations about the location. “I think a different spot could be better, just as I do consider this area a pretty big intersection in Broad Ripple, so something that large and distracting might be kind of unusual,” Ebbert said.
However, other residents, like Amy Fisher, welcome the addition. ”I’m happy about it, it will be a good thing for Broad Ripple,” Fisher stated, expressing her enthusiasm for the project.
The team behind “Gavin-Divergence” anticipates a swift installation onc permits are approved. the sculpture represents a significant investment in public art for the Broad Ripple village, a neighborhood known for its vibrant arts and entertainment scene. The project aims to enhance the area’s cultural identity and attract visitors.
