3 Secret Service Officials Including Comms Director Put on Leave Amid Misconduct Probe

August 27, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Three United States Secret Service employees, including communications director Anthony Guglielmi, were placed on administrative leave late Tuesday pending an internal investigation into potential misconduct. According to U.S. officials speaking to CBS News, the impacted staffers have lost their security clearances and access to work devices.

Internal Investigation Targets Communications Office

The administrative leave affects three non-law enforcement personnel within the agency’s communications office, as reported by The Post. The agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility is handling the probe. A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed the personnel actions while emphasizing the agency’s zero-fail mission, noting that the workforce must maintain an unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage.

Gregg Bernstein, an attorney representing Anthony Guglielmi, defended his client’s record. “Anthony Guglielmi is a professional of deep integrity whose decades-long public record advocating for local, state and federal agencies speaks for itself,” Bernstein told CBS News, adding that Guglielmi holds profound respect for the agency and is cooperating fully with the inquiry.

Recent Security Scrutiny and White House Leaks

The current personnel action follows a turbulent period for the agency. CNN first reported the investigation, which arrives weeks after the Secret Service launched an administrative and potential criminal inquiry into a member of Vice President JD Vance’s security detail for allegedly leaking sensitive information. Public attention has also focused on security concerns surrounding the presidential aircraft fleet, including reports regarding a Qatari-gifted jet and security protocols during the recent NATO summit in Turkey.
