Tragic Toll in Bogor Regency

According to Hadi Rahmat Hardjasasmita, spokesperson for the provincial Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency, the landslides occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. local time on Saturday in several areas of Bogor Regency. The disaster caused three fatalities and left eight individuals injured.

The heavy rains also damaged around eight residences, according to the agency. All those who were injured were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Search Continues for Missing Individual

The whereabouts of one person remain unknown. “The missing person is believed to have been buried under the landslide debris or swept away by the moving soil into a nearby river,” Hardjasasmita stated.

Landslides are a frequent occurrence in Indonesia during the rainy season, particularly in areas with significant deforestation. The nation recorded over 600 landslides between 2019 and 2023 (ReliefWeb).

Ongoing Response

Authorities are continuing their search and rescue efforts. They are also assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the landslides in order to provide appropriate assistance to those affected.
