24,000+ Toyota Sienna Hybrids Recalled in Canada, CTV News Reports
Toyota is recalling more than 24,000 Sienna Hybrid minivans in Canada because a problem with the second-row seat recliners could increase the risk of injury in a crash, CTV News reported.
The safety action covers vehicles from the 2022 to 2026 model years. Transport Canada published a notice regarding the defect on Oct. 20, later updating the details on Oct. 23.
Seat Recliners May Shift During Collisions
The underlying mechanical failure involves the locking mechanisms on the second-row seat recliners. According to the federal regulatory notices, these mechanisms may disengage under specific conditions when a vehicle’s seatbelt pretensioner activates during a collision. If the locking components fail while the pretensioner fires, the seatbacks can shift unexpectedly.
That unexpected movement raises the potential for occupant injury. CP24 noted that the recall impacts more than 24,000 Sienna Hybrid minivans in Canada.
Toyota Advises Owners Not to Use Second-Row Seats
Toyota has issued immediate practical guidance for vehicle owners while a fix is prepared. The manufacturer advises owners not to use the second-row seats to transport passengers until the necessary recall repairs are completed.

Registered owners will receive formal notifications by mail instructing them to bring their vehicles to a local dealership. Authorized dealers will perform a software update on the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit, which governs the operation of the seatbelt pretensioners.
Checking Vehicle Identification Numbers
Alternatively, owners can look up their VIN directly through Toyota Canada’s recall portal or reach out to the automaker by phone at 1-888-869-6828.
