2027 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss Option Returns as Dealer-Installed Package

2027 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss Option Returns as Dealer-Installed Package

October 14, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Return of the Desert Boss Special Edition

The Desert Boss off-road package returns for the 2027 model year after previously disappearing shortly after its initial release. Unlike earlier versions, the upcoming package will not be sold as a factory-installed special edition. Instead, it will arrive exclusively as a dealer-installed option. Chevrolet limits the package strictly to the Colorado ZR2 trim. It will not be offered alongside the Bison or Midnight packages.

Buyers opting for the dealer-installed upgrade receive several distinct exterior and functional components. The package adds a specialized front off-road bumper, a dedicated lighting package, Tech Bronze-colored tow hooks, entry sills, and front fender decals. Chevrolet has not yet announced pricing for the 2027 Desert Boss option. The 2023 edition increased the list price of a standard Colorado by 9,295 dollars.

Nitrogen-Filled Dampers Handle High-Speed off-Road Impacts

The package goes beyond cosmetic changes by integrating nitrogen-filled hydraulic jounce control dampers that work alongside Multimatic DSSV dampers. The DSSV dampers already exist as a 2,583-dollar extra for the standard Colorado ZR2 and come standard on the ZR2 Bison. These hydraulic bump stops handle high-speed impacts during aggressive off-road driving.

Engine Performance Upgrades for 2027

The 2027 Colorado lineup also receives a revamped 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new powerplant, designated L4B, replaces the outgoing L3B engine. The same L4B engine also powers the 2027 Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. General Motors rates the new engine at 350 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. That output represents an increase over the previous engine configuration, which produced 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. General Motors has not yet released overall pricing for the 2027 Chevy Colorado.
