2026 Olympics: Moguls Qualifiers – Harvey & US Skiers Compete
LIVIGNO, Italy – Australian skier Jackson Harvey, a Winter Park native, faces a crucial second qualifying round on Thursday for a chance to compete in the men’s moguls final at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Harvey placed 23rd out of 30 competitors in Tuesday’s initial qualifying round in Livigno, Italy, scoring 69.26, according to reporting from the Aspen Times.
The top 20 skiers from both qualifying rounds will advance to compete in three final rounds on Thursday, ultimately determining the medalists. Harvey needs to place within the top ten in the second round to secure his spot in the finals.
The qualifying rounds come after Harvey’s return from injury, a period he described as nerve-wracking, according to a recent report in the Sky-Hi News. He has been training with his Australian teammates in preparation for the games.
Several American skiers similarly competed in Tuesday’s qualifying round. Nick Page of Park City finished fifth with a score of 77.50, automatically qualifying for the final, matching his result from the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Dylan Walczyk of Breckenridge also secured automatic qualification, finishing seventh with a score of 76.67, an improvement from his 16th-place finish in Beijing. Charlie Mickel of Durango and Landon Wendler of Park City placed 11th and 12th respectively, with scores of 75.31 and 75.08, and will also have a chance to qualify in Thursday’s second round.
Ikuma Horishima of Japan dominated the first round with a score of 85.42, significantly ahead of Canada’s Julien Viel and veteran Mikael Kingsbury, the 2018 Olympic gold medalist.
The second round of qualifiers is scheduled to begin at 2 a.m. Mountain Time on Thursday, February 12th. The finals will follow later that day, with the first round beginning at 4:15 a.m. Mountain Time. The moguls final will consist of three rounds, with skiers eliminated after each round. Scores will not carry over between rounds, meaning each run will be independently judged.
Harvey’s journey to the Olympics is unique, as he is the only member of the Australian mogul ski team not born in Australia. He moved to Queensland, Australia, at the age of 19 to join the Australian National Team, despite growing up in Winter Park, Colorado, where his parents both worked at Winter Park Resort. His mother is originally from Melbourne.
