STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph’s College men’s soccer team is gearing up for the 2025 season with a newly released schedule. The Monks will play a total of 16 regular-season games, commencing at home on August 29th against Wheaton College and concluding on October 29th at Elms College in a Great Northeast athletic Conference (GNAC) match. The team aims to improve upon their 2024 performance and make a strong run in the GNAC tournament.

Key Matchups and Conference Play

Under the guidance of Head Coach Will Pike, the Monks’ schedule includes 12 GNAC contests and four challenging non-conference games. Besides the season opener against Wheaton,Saint Joseph’s will face all three NESCAC programs from Maine: Bates on September 3rd,Colby on September 16th,and Bowdoin on September 23rd. These non-conference games will provide valuable experience and test the team’s mettle early in the season.

GNAC play begins on September 6th with a road game against Rivier University. Following the september 23rd game at Bowdoin, the Monks will finish the regular season with nine consecutive conference games, setting the stage for a competitive run into the GNAC Tournament. The team’s performance in these conference games will be crucial for seeding and a potential tournament berth.

GNAC Tournament and NCAA Aspirations

The 2025 GNAC Tournament is scheduled to begin on November 1st with quarterfinal action, followed by the semifinal and championship rounds on November 4th and 8th, respectively. The tournament champion will secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, which commences on November 15th. Saint Joseph’s aims to be in contention for the GNAC title and a chance to compete on the national stage.

Looking Back at 2024

In 2024, the monks posted an overall record of 8-8-3 and a 7-5-2 mark in GNAC play. As the #5 seed in the GNAC Tournament, Saint Joseph’s traveled to #4 Emmanuel College for a quarterfinal match on November 2nd. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of regulation and overtime,but the Monks were ultimately eliminated in penalty kicks,marking their first first-round exit since 2015. The team will be looking to avenge that loss and make a deeper run in the 2025 tournament.
