BOULDER, CO – April 22, 2024 – Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders will undergo surgery to repair a high ankle sprain suffered during Saturday’s 31-28 loss to Arizona State at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The injury occurred in the first quarter of the game.
Coach Deion Sanders confirmed the news following the game and provided an update on Monday, April 22nd, stating that surgery was the recommended course of action. The timeline for Sanders’ recovery is currently estimated to be 4-6 months, potentially impacting his availability for the start of the 2024 college football season.
Shilo sanders, a junior transfer from Jackson State (where he also played under his father), has been a key component of the Colorado defense since joining the program. In 2023, he recorded 56 total tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and intercepted one pass in 11 games. he was named to the All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention team.
The injury to Sanders adds to a growing list of health concerns for the Buffaloes. Colorado finished the 2023 season with a 4-8 record, and maintaining player health will be crucial for improvement in their first season in the Big 12 Conference.
The Buffaloes’ spring practice concludes on April 27th. The 2024 season opener is scheduled for August 31st against North Dakota State at Folsom Field in boulder, Colorado.
