18-Year-Old Injured in Basel Stabbing – Police Investigate
A 18-year-traditional man was injured with a knife in Basel, Switzerland, early Sunday morning following an altercation near the Barfüsserplatz. Police have arrested two suspects, a 20-year-old Swiss national and a 23-year-old Italian citizen, according to a statement released by the Basel-Stadt cantonal police.
The incident occurred around 00:40 local time at the intersection of Konzertgasse and Fasnachtsgasse. Authorities report that the initial confrontation involved a group of individuals and the two men now in custody. The dispute began verbally before escalating to physical violence, during which the 18-year-old was stabbed with a bladed weapon.
Emergency medical personnel transported the injured man to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released. Following the attack, the two suspects fled the scene in the direction of Streitgasse, but were apprehended by police shortly after.
The cantonal police have launched a criminal investigation to determine the cause of the altercation and the precise sequence of events.
