15-Year-Old Mexican Debuts in Houston Dynamo | MLS News

Houston Dynamo FC has signed 15-year-vintage Matthew Arana to a first-team Homegrown Player contract, the club announced Saturday, making him the youngest player ever signed to a first-team contract in franchise history. The midfielder’s contract extends through the 2027-28 season, with club options through 2029-30.

Arana, a native of Houston, joined the Dynamo Academy in 2021 from local youth club RISE SC. He progressed through the academy system and made his professional debut in 2025 with Dynamo 2, Houston’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, registering one assist in five appearances, including one start.

“Houston is a proud soccer city teeming with young talent,” said Dynamo President of Soccer Pat Onstad in a statement. “One of our goals when we arrived at the Club was to provide opportunities for this talent to realize their dreams of becoming professional soccer players in their hometown. I am very proud to announce the signing of Matthew Arana, a native Houstonian, to a Homegrown contract with the Dynamo. He made the most of his opportunities since joining the Dynamo Academy in 2021, advancing quickly through our pathway and making an impact at the first team level this preseason. He has a bright future ahead of him.”

Arana was one of seven academy players called up by head coach Ben Olsen for preseason action this year, contributing to the team’s victory in the inaugural Torneo de Tejas. He saw competitive minutes in preseason matches against the New England Revolution, San Antonio FC, and FC Dallas.

The signing marks the 20th Dynamo Academy product to sign a Homegrown first-team contract and the eighth such signing under President of Soccer Pat Onstad, who assumed his role in February 2022. Arana has also represented Mexico at the U-15 level internationally.

Houston opens its 2026 MLS regular season at home Saturday night against the Chicago Fire.
