11-Year-Old Oklahoma Girl Charged With Murder After Shooting Brother

September 13, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

An 11-year-old girl in Edmond, Oklahoma, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after police say she fatally shot her 15-year-old brother in a residential area roughly 15 miles north of downtown Oklahoma City. The shooting occurred on September 9, 2026, prompting an overnight police response and subsequent booking into a juvenile detention facility.

Timeline of the Edmond Police Department Response

According to the Edmond Police Department, officers received notification of a shooting in a residential neighborhood at approximately 4 p.m. on September 9, 2026. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered the teenage boy dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

Just before 1 a.m. on September 10, police arrested the victim’s younger sister. She was immediately transported to a juvenile detention facility and booked on a second-degree murder complaint.

The mother of the children was not present at the residence when the gunfire erupted. Investigative dispatch records via Broadcastify indicate that the young girl contacted her mother by phone to report that someone had shot her brother.

Legal Framework and Juvenile Justice Restrictions

Authorities have not yet released a definitive motive behind the fatal incident. Both the Edmond Police Department and the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that state laws strictly limit the dissemination of public records and identifying details regarding cases involving juvenile suspects and victims.

Because of statutory protections governing minors in the legal system, law enforcement agencies withheld the name and further identifying details of the 11-year-old suspect. The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office holds sole jurisdiction over determining whether formal prosecution will proceed and if the minor will remain within the juvenile justice track.

Local authorities expressed grief over the incident. “We recognize this is a heartbreaking situation for the family involved,” the Edmond Police Department stated in a public release. “Our thoughts are with them as they grieve this tragedy.”

Community Impact and Regional Resources

The investigation remains active as prosecutors and detectives review evidence gathered from the scene. Further court hearings will determine the housing and legal status of the young suspect under Oklahoma juvenile statutes.
