NC State Wrestling Seeks Milestone Victories at Appalachian State Sunday
BOONE, N.C. – The No. 10 NC State Wolfpack wrestling team travels to Boone,North Carolina,this Sunday for a dual meet against Appalachian State,seeking to achieve several program milestones while continuing its dominance in the series. A win would mark the 795th in program history (currently 794-490-22), the 260th of head coach Popolizio’s career (259-89-2), and his 179th victory at NC State (178-36).
This matchup represents the 45th meeting between the two programs, with NC State holding a commanding 34-9-1 advantage. the Wolfpack secured a 34-12 victory over the Mountaineers in their last encounter in Raleigh last season, and Appalachian State hasn’t defeated NC State sence 2010.Beyond the historical significance, this dual offers an possibility for the wolfpack to solidify its position within the competitive ACC landscape.
The dual’s individual matchups include potential appearances by Cason Howle or Andrew Macchiavello at 197 lbs against Logan Eller, and Isaac Trumble, Everest Oullette, or Xavier Wilson at 285 lbs facing Stephen Monchery.
NC State boasts a roster featuring seven NCAA Qualifiers,including one national champion and four All-Americans. Currently, eight Wolfpack wrestlers are ranked by InterMat, with four in the top 10 – led by reigning national champion Vincent Robinson, ranked No. 1 at 125 lbs.
