007 First Light on PS5: 60 FPS Performance & Exclusive Gameplay Revealed

May 14, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Developer IO Interactive has confirmed that 007 First Light, the highly anticipated new James Bond game, will achieve a stable 60 frames per second (fps) on both the PlayStation 5 Pro and the base PS5 model, addressing months of speculation and fan concern over its performance.

The revelation comes after IO Interactive shared a two-and-a-half-minute gameplay clip on social media, showcasing the title running smoothly at 60fps on the PS5 Pro. The developer clarified that players will have a choice between a 30fps quality mode and a 60fps performance mode on the base PS5, though the specifics for Xbox Series X/S remain unclear. Historically, Xbox Series X has mirrored PS5 performance modes, while Series S often defaults to a single 30fps option or adopts similar configurations.

The announcement marks a significant turnaround from earlier demonstrations, where the game struggled to maintain consistent frame rates even in its 30fps quality mode during a State of Play reveal last year. At the time, critics noted choppy performance, raising doubts about whether the title could meet modern expectations for fluid gameplay. The latest update suggests that IO Interactive has since optimized the game to deliver smoother experiences across both PS5 variants, though the base model will likely require visual trade-offs to sustain 60fps.

Performance concerns had been compounded by earlier technical missteps. The game’s initial PC system requirements, which recommended 32GB of RAM and 12GB of VRAM for 1080p 60fps gameplay, were later revised downward—a move that initially seemed at odds with the prospect of achieving stable 60fps on consoles with less powerful hardware. The inclusion of mid-range CPUs like the Ryzen 5 7600 or Core i5 13500 in the recommended specs further fueled skepticism about console performance. However, the developer’s latest confirmation suggests that optimizations have successfully bridged that gap, at least for PlayStation users.

While the PS5 Pro and base PS5 versions now appear to be on track for 60fps performance, the future of the Xbox Series X/S remains uncertain. Players may need to rely on Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support to mitigate frame-rate fluctuations, particularly if the game operates in the 48–60fps range on the base PS5. The developer has not yet provided details on whether similar performance modes will be available on Xbox consoles, leaving fans to speculate based on past patterns.

Beyond technical specifications, the gameplay footage released by IO Interactive has underscored the game’s visual and mechanical improvements. Early impressions from the clip suggest that 007 First Light has refined its combat and exploration systems, offering a more polished experience than previous reveals. However, the full scope of these changes will only become clear upon the game’s official release.

The confirmation of 60fps support on PS5 follows a period of heightened anticipation and scrutiny for the title, which has been positioned as a return to form for the James Bond franchise after years of mixed reception for its predecessors. With the technical hurdles now seemingly addressed, the focus shifts to whether the game can deliver on its narrative and gameplay promises—a question that will be answered in the coming months.
