Silksong Players Turn to Mods to Address Controversial Damage System
A mod addressing a widely criticized damage mechanic in Hollow Knight: Silksong has quickly become one of the gameS most downloaded modifications, demonstrating player frustration and a proactive community response.
Players have voiced concerns over Hornet, the protagonist, receiving double damage from enemies and bosses in Silksong, resulting in the loss of two health points per hit. This increased difficulty has prompted Nexus Mods user Baiker to create a mod, released on September 5th, that limits all enemy and boss attacks to a single point of damage. As of today, the mod has been downloaded over 8,100 times, making it the third most popular Silksong mod on Nexus Mods. The mod arrives as players continue to grapple with other aspects of Silksong’s gameplay. Complaints also center around Hornet’s exclusively diagonal downward attacks, a departure from the vertical attacks in Hollow Knight, which some players find hinders traversal in parkour sections. While no mods currently address this issue, other community-created modifications offer quality-of-life improvements, including displaying Hornet’s position, granting temporary invincibility, and allowing players to respawn closer to their point of death.
These modifications highlight the active Silksong modding community and their willingness to address player concerns as they explore the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight.
