iOS 26.4: Top 10 New Features – Apple Music AI, Emoji & More!

Apple is poised to release iOS 26.4, an update focused on enhancing existing features rather than introducing a major overhaul like a revamped Siri, according to release notes and reports from developers and beta testers. The release candidate is currently available, with a public launch anticipated between March 23 and March 24.

A key addition in the update is Playlist Playground, a beta feature within Apple Music. This tool allows users to generate playlists based on text descriptions, enabling them to create soundtracks based on moods, activities, or even abstract concepts. The update also introduces a dedicated widget for Apple’s Ambient Music feature, providing quicker access to curated playlists designed for Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing.

iOS 26.4 expands the emoji library with eight new characters: a trombone, treasure chest, distorted face, hairy creature, fight cloud, orca, landslide, and ballet dancer. For users who find the Liquid Glass visual effect overly prominent, a new “Reduce Bright Effects” setting minimizes bright flashes when interacting with the interface, while the “Reduce Motion” setting further limits these animations.

The update addresses a typing issue that plagued iOS 26, correcting a keyboard bug that caused typos during prompt typing. Family Sharing also receives an upgrade, allowing adult members to use their own payment methods for purchases, eliminating the need for a shared payment arrangement. This change, highlighted by users as a significant improvement, simplifies individual purchases within family groups.

CarPlay users will gain access to third-party chatbot integration, with Apple providing the framework for companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google to update their apps for compatibility. The Podcasts app now natively supports video episodes, utilizing HLS streaming and offering options to switch between audio and video, as well as download videos for offline viewing.

Beyond these core features, iOS 26.4 introduces several smaller enhancements. The Health app’s Sleep feature now tracks average bedtime over the past two weeks, providing users with insights into the impact of their sleep schedule. Offline Music Recognition in Control Center allows users to identify songs without an internet connection, delivering results when connectivity is restored. Apple Music also gains nearby concert suggestions and full-page album artwork for a more immersive experience. Accessibility options are improved with easier access to subtitle customization, and Apple’s Creator Studio now supports the Freeform app.

Security is also bolstered with Stolen Device Protection now enabled by default. This feature requires biometric authentication for accessing sensitive information like passwords and disabling Lost Mode, and introduces a one-hour security delay for certain actions, such as changing an Apple ID password, to thwart physical theft and unauthorized access.
