FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Former Brigham and Women’s Hospital physician Derrick Todd has been indicted on three counts of rape and 17 counts of indecent assault and battery stemming from allegations involving 11 additional patients, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Thursday.
The new charges relate to incidents allegedly occurring between 2021 and 2023 although Todd was practicing as a rheumatologist and primary care physician at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham, Massachusetts. The victims range in age from 20 to 60 years old, according to prosecutors.
This indictment adds to existing charges against Todd, who was previously indicted in January 2025 on two counts of rape involving two other patients at the same practice. That case remains ongoing, with a court date scheduled later this month.
Prosecutors allege that Todd conducted medically unnecessary and excessively prolonged pelvic and breast examinations, often lacking the appropriate training or certification to perform such procedures. The examinations were allegedly performed “outside the accepted standards of medical care,” the District Attorney’s office stated.
“The allegations are that the defendant in this case exploited his patients’ vulnerability and abused his position of trust as a medical professional,” Ryan said in a press release. “No person should have to fear for their safety when seeking medical treatment.”
The allegations include instances where Todd suggested pelvic floor therapy to patients and, after they agreed to a demonstration, allegedly inserted his fingers into a patient’s vagina and inserted a speculum. In one instance, a patient reportedly screamed in pain and begged him to stop, but he allegedly continued the procedure for approximately 15 minutes, according to previous allegations.
Todd ceased practicing medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2023 amid an internal investigation into his conduct. More than 200 former patients have since joined a class action lawsuit against him.
Todd, 52, of Wayland, Massachusetts, is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges in Middlesex Superior Court next Wednesday.
